About the Artist

Shire horse sculpture

I was born in Maidstone in 1984 where I lived until my father left the Royal Engineers in 1987. My family lived in Northamptonshire for over eight years and then in Oxfordshire, where I attended Bloxham School. It was not until my GCSE years that I received any proper art training, and thanks to the patient teaching of Martin Pye and Fiona Waddy I was able to develop my drawing and painting skills.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed art, my main focus throughout my school life was science, with the ultimate goal of becoming a vet. I was delighted to be offered a place at Cambridge University to study veterinary science for September 2003, and enjoyed three fun-filled and fabulous years there. However, towards the end of the third year I became aware that my heart was no longer in it, and that my real passion was for painting and sculpture.

I made the decision to finish the third year and leave with a degree, a BA, in zoology. I graduated on the 29th June 2006 from Trinity Hall and am now pursuing my new career full time. I am confident that this has been the right decision and I'll be able to explore many more avenues with sculpture.
